Hundreds of quilts and quilted items will be on display the weekend of April 8th and 9th at the Manitowoc Expo Center. This weekend is the biennial quilt show brought to you by A Patch of Lakeshore Quilt Guild of Manitowoc. The guild was established in 1993 and meets the second Thursday of every month at the Manitowoc Senior Center at 6:45 PM.
This year’s show, entitled “FANtastic Quilts on the Lakeshore”, will be presented on Saturday from 9:00AM to 5:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00AM until 3:00 PM. The quilts on display will vary from the traditional; featuring patterns that have been around for hundreds of years to contemporary quilts with bold colors and unique blocks and arrangements. All the quilts are made by members of A Patch of Lakeshore Quilt Guild which has grown over the years from its original 3 members to a high of over 100 members.
Many people look forward to this early spring show as it transforms the Expo Center into an exciting venue filled with colorful quilted items. It is known for the number and variety of quilts displayed and the many vendors that come to offer their quilting and craft supplies, sewing machines, patterns, fabrics, and more. The show also features a gift boutique with hand crafted articles on sale that were made by the many talented members of the guild. A beautiful, uniquely patterned, blue and white quilt was also made by several members of the guild and will be raffled off at the end of the show. Raffle tickets can be purchased during the show or from any member of the guild. You do not need to be present to win.
Each biennial show highlights the work of one special quilter. This year’s featured artist will Margaret Greicar who has been a member of the guild for a number of years. Margaret will be displaying many of her beautiful quilts and other works of art at the show.
In addition to sharing a love of quilting with each other and the community, the guild also focuses on various charitable activities. As with previous shows, there will be a booth selling donated items with all proceeds going to a designated charity. During the last quilt show, in 2015, more that $1000 was raised for the Domestic Violence Center. Each year the guild members vote on the charity to receive the money from the show. In addition to the quilt show, there are also a number of “charity sew” events during the year where guild members get together sew quilts or other items for various good causes.
So make sure you leave time in your weekend to attend A Patch of Lakeshore Quilt Guild’s show at the Manitowoc Expo Center. For only $5.00 (for those 17 or older) you can spend an hour or two looking at the beautiful quilts and searching the vendor booths for that special gadget or fabric, then stop by the food court for some refreshments before you leave. If you would like more information about the guild, meeting times or how you can join you can visit the website at www.patchoflakeshore.com. We look forward to seeing you at the show!
