***Please Note that you can now sign up for individual sessions. You do not have to sign up for all four sessions. (However you will get a certificate of completion if you attend at least 75% of the workshops).
The Nonprofit Board Prep Program is a comprehensive training program for individuals who are interested in serving on nonprofit boards. This educational series was recently offered out to our Young Professionals and now we are pleased to offer this out to all individuals who are interested in serving on a Non-Profit Board including all Young Professionals who missed the first series.
This program is a four-session series taking place from Noon -1:00 PM at The Beacon Organizational Consulting. Participants must attend at least 75% of the workshops to receive a certificate of completion. Also at the end of the series you will be provided with a packet that gives you the contact information for the many Non-Profits in our community that are in need of both Board Members and volunteers.
November 19, 2019: Session 1- Overview of Nonprofit Boards
November 26, 2019: Session 2- Fundraising & Grant Writing
December 3, 2019: Session 3- Financial Management/Legal Responsibilities
December 10, 2019: Session 4- Strategic Planning
The board prep training sessions are led by local community leaders who are experienced in serving on a variety of nonprofit boards within Manitowoc County.
The fee to participate in this training program is $50 per individual for all four training sessions. If you pick from the individual sessions instead, each session cost $15.00. Lunch and training materials for each session are included in the registration fee.

Donna Firman, Mustard Seed Advisors
Donna is the founder of Mustard Seed Advisors, a philanthropic organization that helps nonprofits build capacity, develop strategy and raise money. She is a well-rounded professional with twenty+ years of progressive experience in business, organizational and client development, donor development, training, and results-oriented leadership. She's equally well versed with for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. For nearly ten years Donna has worked as a social entrepreneur helping organizations to raise money, drive operational excellence, and solve business problems that hold institutions back and prevent growth. She's trained and energized boards of directors, planned and executed major fundraising events, and created brand identities for not-for-profits. She's also successfully written governmental and foundation grants. Donna has a unique combination of micro and macro perspectives, with strong relationship building, collaboration and communication skills. She is proud of her many years of volunteer service that started at the age of thirteen. The expectation set by her late father that she would always find a way to contribute to a higher calling, has in-part informed the work she does today.

Lacey Silbernagel, CLA
Lacey has more than 10 years of tax and accounting experience working with closely held businesses. She provides tax planning and compliance services to a wide variety of clients and is skilled in reviewing individual and corporate tax returns. She interacts regularly with loan officers, trust officers, insurance professionals and state authorities. Lacey is a member of the firm’s Not-For-Profit team, and stays up-to-date on changing tax laws and reporting requirements that impact not-for-profit organizations. She serves as a tax resource for clients and team members as she advises on proper reporting and helps minimize the effect of unrelated business income activities. Lacey works with a number of not-for-profit organizations, including public charities, private foundations, professional organizations and individuals. Lacey has been with Schenck since 2004, and became a manager in 2012. She is also a member of Schenck’s Agriculture & Food Processing team.
Jeffrey Dunn, Michael Best & Friederich, LLP
Jeff's practice focuses on a variety of commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and general business law. Jeff also advises clients on business planning issues such as entity selection and information. and business planning and succession.

Theresa Collins, Beacon Organizational Consulting
Theresa Collins is the President and CEO of Beacon Organizational Consulting. She brings over 13 years of experience in the nonprofit and organizational development industries. She holds a Master's degree in Management & Organizational Development with a Training emphasis and a double Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Social Change & Development with a Law & Justice emphasis. Theresa has extensive professional and personal experience specifically in the areas of homelessness, child abuse and neglect, foster care resources, youth services, mental health clubhouses, community action programs, and business development. She has raised millions of dollars to fund community projects, events, and services. Community service and involvement are key values for Theresa. She is currently an active national and chapter member of the Grant Professionals Association and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, a board member of Foster Families & Friends, founding board member with the Boys & Girls Club of Manitowoc County, a mayor-appointed member of the Citizen Advisory Council for the city of Manitowoc, a Future 15 Award recipient of the Chamber's Young Professionals, and has also served on the boards of a mental health clubhouse and Boys & Girls Club, among others.
