Security Officer (Unarmed)

SHIFT:  Monday - Friday | Day/evening hours

LOCATION:  Lakeshore Technical College – Cleveland, Wisconsin

POSITION SUMMARY:  Serve as integral part of the LTC Safety and Security team. Function as the eyes and ears of the institution to be attentive to potential safety and security concerns. Responsible for monitoring the condition of building equipment and provide security checks on facility entry points. Collaborate with emergency response agencies, when their services are needed on campus. Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned):

(50%) Facilities Monitoring
•    Monitor the condition of building equipment such as boilers, pumps, walk-in coolers, fire alarms systems, etc.
•    Record on preprinted checklists: temperature, pressure, and other information indicating the condition of equipment.
•    Contact on-duty maintenance worker if equipment falls outside normal operating ranges.
•    Check doors and windows to make sure they are secure and report any destruction of property or violation of campus rules and regulations.
•    Lock and unlock doors as directed by class schedules.

(50%) Safety and Security
•    Monitor areas for potential safety concerns.
•    Complete surveillance rounds monitoring for concerning behavior.
•    Request and collaborate with emergency service agencies, when need might arise.
•    Support other college areas with safety/ security concerns.
•    Inspect and maintain campus security vehicle.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  N/A

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•    Associate degree or equivalent in a related discipline required.
•    Two to three years’ (4,000 to 6,000 hours) of occupational experience as a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer preferred.
•    While this is an unarmed position, preference will be given to individuals with LEOSA credential.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: 
•    Use and maintain voice mail. Use and maintain a personal calendar. Use email to communicate. Navigate through Windows. Send and receive attachments. Access a bulletin board. Navigate through the Internet.
•    Create reports in MS Word.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 
•    Ability to keep accurate reports and records of activities and the ability to observe and accurately recall facts and details.
•    Ability to quickly assess situations, and rapidly consider and implement appropriate action.
•    Must possess integrity, initiative, multi-tasking, flexibility, self-direction, continuous learning, strong communication skills, firm reassuring manner, and sound judgment under pressure.
•    Exemplify college values in all staff and student interactions, as well as services delivered. 
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, students, and people of diverse cultural, social, or educational backgrounds.
•    Fluent, bilingual individual is beneficial.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
•    Valid State of Wisconsin driver's license required.
•    Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, or ability to obtain.

? MVR CHECK Required – The employee in this position is a potential operator of a Lakeshore Technical College owned vehicle or may be responsible for driving any other motor vehicles on behalf of the College.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
•    The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 
•    The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
•    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
•    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
•    Work environment may require multi-tasking.  
•    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

CONDITION(S) OF EMPLOYMENT:
•    Employment conditional on completion of a Background Information Disclosure (BID) and a Motor Vehicle Record Check with the results acceptable to the College.
•    Valid State of Wisconsin driver’s license is required.
