SHIFT:  Day/evening/weekend hours | Flexible based upon the needs of the College
LOCATION:  Lakeshore Technical College – Cleveland, Wisconsin
POSITION SUMMARY: Oversee the operation of the welding and industrial maintenance labs. Promote a learning atmosphere in the labs and provide student reinforcement training and individual one on one work in the lab by assisting students in mastering the techniques of welding, bending, fabricating, troubleshooting, laser cutting, and equipment and machine repair. Repair and service machinery, set up new machinery, troubleshoot, and evaluate machine breakdowns. Spec new equipment, obtain quotes, and assist with the purchasing process. Assist instructors in budget and curriculum development and coordinating vendors and tours. Provides an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned):
(35%) Maintenance

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment.
  • Repair and service machinery and equipment.  Repair and service skills will include mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic repairs, fabrication, and welding, robotic and machining during repair of approximately 50 weld booths and various other industrial maintenance and Fab Lab equipment. Change blades and bearings on saws as needed.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance on Weld, Maintenance and Fab Lab Equipment including Fiber Laser, Robots, CNC Forming and Milling equipment, Shear, Laser Cutter.
  • Perform and schedule routine maintenance and inspection on Forklifts and Overhead Crane.
  • Fabrication of fixturing, tables, racking and tool hangers.
  • Monitor and perform servicing on all machinery and the documentation required.
(35%) Instruction Assistance / Student Success
  • Provide student reinforcement training and individualized assistance to help students master welding, laser cutting, robotics, and fabrication techniques in the Weld Lab Also, provide support to students in mastering hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, pumps and motors, and layout and rigging techniques in the Maintenance Lab
  • Reinforce proper techniques in welder set up and production, machine repair and troubleshooting, and inspection of final products.  
  • Assist faculty with scheduling student equipment needs for students engaged in Competency Based learning. Redesign and modify machinery and equipment to accommodate individual needs students and also the changing needs of the welding and industrial maintenance industries.
  • Promote a learning atmosphere in the lab by encouraging effective work habits with students by coaching and correcting assignments and serving as a resource person for the students.
  • Ensure that safety is maintained and followed in the labs at all times.
  • Support welding, fabrication, and industrial maintenance instruction in the online environment by creating, posting, editing, and managing curriculum files and other learning materials and working with various online software applications. 
(15%) Recruitment / Community Service
  • Provide support by coordinating with vendors, other technical colleges, college recruitment team, and advisors by conducting tours of instructional labs.
  • Conduct and coordinate hands-on activities for events to market manufacturing programs. Provide support to the Mobile Manufacturing Lab, including maintenance, set up, tear down, and staffing.
  • Provide information to visitors and guests.
  • Attend workshops/seminars and advisory committee meetings.
  • Support the college by assisting with community service requests.
  • Provide 5 Star Service throughout all customer interactions.
(10%) Purchasing
  • Order lab supplies and material, and machine repair parts. Receive all deliveries including unloading trucks and placing materials in the appropriate storage areas.
  • Primary contact person for purchase of all new machines and equipment and disposal of equipment.
  • Set-up of new machinery.
  • Provide support of the Miller Electric Welding contract by conducting annual review and maintenance of 75 welders at Lakeshore and 13 welders at Kiel High School as well as coordination of the change over every 3 years.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and order as needed.
  • Assist faculty and Dean with equipment and consumable budgeting process.    
(5%) AWS ATF Testing Facility and Certifications
  • Ensure NC3 certification kits are maintained, and order parts as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of maintenance and repairs to welders and test equipment.
  • Maintain documentation of purchases of ATF materials, equipment, and consumables.
  • Coordinate calibration of inspection equipment and welding equipment along with the documentation required.
  • Maintain inventory and traceability of ATF test materials and consumables including heat numbers of test plates, steel mill reports, and filler materials.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Provide work direction to work study/student help employees and temporary employees
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Welding or Maintenance Mechanic Technical Diploma or related degree and high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant occupational experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Solidworks desired.
  • Strong preference for previous experience teaching or instructional assistance in an open lab environment.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
  • CWI and/or CWE preferred.
MVR CHECK Required  – The employee in this position is a potential operator of a Lakeshore Technical College owned vehicle or may be responsible for driving any other motor vehicles on behalf of the College.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
  • Be familiar with basic metalworking, finishing, and maintenance tools and hardware.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to navigate through Windows; access college network system; understand database concepts; and download and manage various applications and files.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technology and be able to support any software or hardware that is used by the College.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of WTCS and Lakeshore’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Ability to master software such as: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Maintain functional knowledge of administrative software system (PeopleSoft).
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.
