Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
 
Responsible for plant operational systems in canned, frozen and sauce operations.  This consists of acquisition of raw materials, agricultural planning, product processing, quality assurance, safety, human relations and shipping of quality-finished products.
 
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Direct supervision of all management personnel, indirect supervision of hourly and seasonal personnel. 
  • Responsible for all decisions in plant, field, and sauce operations while consulting with and accountable to the V. P. Operations. 
  • Prepare and administer direct and overhead budgets. 
  • Administration of all correspondence and communications necessary to carry out company functions in sales, distribution, finance, administration, quality assurance, human resources, production, safety, energy and others that might be determined. 
  • Interaction, along with subordinates, to various counterparts at Corporate level to meet Company goals and strategies. 
  • Recommendations to V.P. Operations on capital programs necessary to maintain cost efficiency and to achieve long range and strategic plan. 
  • Responsible for strict compliance and administration of all Company policies, rules and regulations, as well as the same for federal, state and local agencies. 
  • Responsible for carrying out programs to assure Company status as a quality producer. 
  • Responsible for the compliance of all government regulations and the necessary reporting requirements.   
  • Knowledge of Company’s mission and goals affecting respective product and plant. 
  • Ensure all personnel follow Lakeside Foods established policies and procedures for their job as described in the training manual and orientation program. 
  • In the Absence of the plant quality manager, the general manager is responsible for ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements, industry regulated standards and overall food safety and quality functions.  In the absence of the quality manager the general manager will also lend support to seasonal lead staff for day to day quality functions when needed. 
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the V. P. Operations. 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
 
Knowledge:
  • A four year college degree is preferred, plus five years related experience.
  • Should have overall knowledge of plant operations and equipment, plus previous experience in a supervisory capacity. 
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public. 
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise people at all levels of the organization.       
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
