Dive into the classic traditions brought to our region by 19th-century settlers. Explore the intertwining of cultural celebrations, and reflect on how they color our current community’s festive season. Highlights include explorations of St. Martin’s Day, St. Lucy’s Day, a traditional tree lighting, and more. Advanced registration is required for all public, private, and homeschool students.
  • Pinecrest Christmas: Friday, December 13 from 4 to 8 pm and Saturday, December 14 from Noon to 6 pm; Bundle up for a holiday visit to explore the season's traditions at the Manitowoc County Historical Society's Pinecrest Village. From lantern lit walks to a visit from Santa on Saturday, there is something for everyone as you venture into homes and businesses while they prepare for the holiday season. Wood stoves and historically decorated buildings greet you as you experience holiday traditions from our early citizens. General admission and free for MCHS Members. Pinecrest Christmas is made possible by Community First Credit Union, A.C.E. Building Service, Bitter Neuman Appliance Furniture & Mattress, and Seehafer Broadcasting.
  • Holiday Wassail Walking Tour: Saturday, December 14 at 3 pm and 4:30 pm; Purchase your VIP ticket to follow along on a guided 60 minute holiday wassail experience tour. Victorian novelists Washington Irving and Charles Dickens elevated this idealized view of what Christmas could be with warm and welcoming homes for families and friends to gather around the wassail bowl, as they might carol from house to house. At each home folks would give and receive a simple greeting. The toast, “was hail,” means be in good health or be fortunate. The reply “drink hail” was given. You’ll knock on the doors of our historic houses and enjoy food and beverages along the way. Advanced registration is required.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
