At the Manitowoc County Historical Society in July: Kids Free Days, Car Show, and Workshops

 
Here's what is happening at the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, in July: 
  • Kids Free Days, Every Thursday in July, all kids 12 and under will receive free admission to the Museum! Bring out the whole family to experience history in action around the Village. Each week will feature an exciting new theme in the Historic Village including (hands-on activities will take place from 10 am to 1 pm). General admission for adults and other children. 
  • Dine Fundraiser at Time Out; Monday, July 7 from 4 to 8 pm; Time Out - 1027 North Rapids Road in Manitowoc; Dine with us at Time Out on Monday July 7 from 4 pm to 8 pm. No flyer needed, simply visit during the fundraiser hours and 10% from your dine-in order will be donated to MCHS.
  • Various summer camps will take place throughout July including: Life as a Pioneer (July 9 and 10); In the Kitchen (July 16); and Makesmith (July 17). Fee charged and advanced registration is required. 
  • Blacksmithing Basics workshop; Saturday, July 12 from Noon to 3 pm; The class is designed to give someone with little or no metal working skills as a hands-on, fun “be a blacksmith for a day” experience. Explore the basics of forge work in a blacksmith shop while making a decorative “S” hook or a bottle opener to take home. Advanced registration is required and fee charged.
  • Share the Museum Week; July 16 through 19, from 10 am to 4 pm each day; Share the Museum Days are just one of the many perks of being a Manitowoc County Historical Society Member. Members can show their friends and family just how special our museum is by bringing two guests for FREE to experience the stories of our past, and all of the fun programming that comes along with it! MCHS members must accompany guests on their visit.
  • Community Craft Night; Thursday, July 17 from 5 to 7 pm at MCHS; Do you knit, crochet, sew, quilt, draw, paint, scrapbook, embroider, whittle, or anything else? Bring something to work on while you enjoy community engagement! Meet other crafters and artisans in your community, and maybe even pick up a new skill. Each month we will be bringing out a item from our archives collection to enjoy and inspire you in your own work! FREE to attend.
  • Teen Blacksmithing Workshop; Thursday, July 24 from Noon to 3 pm; This class will invite teens to learn historic blacksmithing techniques in a historic setting. Everyone will get to make several small, hands-on projects, such as small cuff bracelet, dinner triangle, or hooks. Fee charged and advanced registration is required.
  • Mid Summer Meltdown: Hot Rod and Custom Car Show; Saturday, July 26 from 10 am to 4 pm; Special admission rate of $10 per car and $10 general admission for adults and children. Grab a Cedar Crest ice cream and check out Traditional pre-1966 Hot Rods, Customs, stock Cars, trucks, Motorcycles, and a vintage fire engine exhibit. Listen to Rockabilly music while touring the historic Pinecrest Village - all for a special admission rate of only $10 a person. Cars begin filling the village at 10 am. If you are coming to view the cars, plan to arrive closer to 11 am. Catch the mid century fashion show at 11 am and maybe even hit the dance floor! Live Music from Noon to 2 pm with the The Dirty Martinis Rockabilly Band - The hardest working Rockabilly Band in Green Bay! Whip out your best Jell-o recipe and Mirro mold for our Jell-o contest! Want to showcase your Jell-o creation? Have your masterpiece at the Meeme House dining room by 1:30 pm. Judging and ribbons will take place at 2 pm.
  • Females at the Forge Workshop; Saturday, July 26 from 12 Noon until 3 pm; Join us in the forge to learn how fire, metal and a hammer come together to create a decorative piece! Our experienced female blacksmith will teach you a few tricks of the trade in this special WOMEN ONLY edition of our popular introductory blacksmith class. Advanced registration is required and fee charged.
  • Summer 2025 Teacher Workshops; Wednesday, July 30 from 9 am to 12 Noon and Thursday, August 7 from 9 am to 12 Noon; The Manitowoc County Historical Society’s 2025 Summer Teacher Workshops are FREE, half-day programs focused on history, art, and science. Educators will learn about ways to incorporate MCHS’ collections, our historic Pinecrest Village, and stories of our local history into their curriculum. Advanced registration is required. Free to attend.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers. 
 
Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
