Here's what is happening at the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, in October:
- Highlights from the Collection - Members Only: Wednesday, October 8 at 11 am and 6 pm; Join MCHS for a 1-hour behind-the-scenes look on rarely seen items from the extensive collection of our local history. Delight in viewing unique objects seldom seen by the public and learn about their fascinating histories. Advanced registration is required.
- Spirited History Lantern Tours: Friday, October 10 at 6 pm and 8 pm; From authentic 19th-century pioneer ghost stories to modern-day encounters, costumed storytellers share unnerving tales on this Pinecrest Village ghost tour. The one-hour candlelit walking tour begins at the McAllister House Welcome Center and is suitable for ages eight and older. Advanced registration is required. The cost is $20 per person. MCHS Members receive a discount.
- All Hallow's Eve: Pinecrest Village Trick or Treat: Saturday, October 11 from 2 to 4 pm; Stroll the traffic-free streets of the Historic Village on this fun-filled October weekend. Historic homes and businesses will be distributing classic candy and, as part of the Teal Pumpkin Project, allergy-safe non-food treats. Make your way to different historic porches where kids in costume can gather sweet treats, plus enjoy an assortment of other fall-fun activities! General admission.
- Community Craft Night: Thursday, October 16 from 5 to 7 pm at MCHS; Do you knit, crochet, sew, quilt, draw, paint, scrapbook, embroider, whittle, or anything else? Bring something to work on while you enjoy community engagement! Meet other crafters and artisans in your community, and maybe even pick up a new skill. Each month we will be bringing out a item from our archives collection to enjoy and inspire you in your own work! FREE to attend.
- Neighbors Free Weekend: Friday, October 17 & Saturday, October 18 from 10 am - 4 pm; We’re offering FREE admission to residents of Manitowoc County! Neighbors Free Weekend is our way of acknowledging Museum neighbors and strengthening knowledge of our local history. Join us for a stroll through the Historic Village and discover the stories of our past. To receive free admission, neighbors need only present a driver’s license or a utility bill with the applicable zip code at the McAllister House Welcome Center Admissions area.
- Tavern Tales of the Old Northwest: Hungry for History Series: Wednesday, October 22 at 5 pm at Branch Station; Follow along as we share unusual, curious, and fascinating stories of early taverns in Manitowoc County. Advanced registration is required and fee charged.
- History of Communication - Themed Field Trip: Thursday, October 23 from 10 am to 2 pm; Discover the history of communication for our early residents. From Morse Code, to the popularity of wood type, and the skills of pen and ink - you’ll learn about the past and make connections to today’s communication methods. Advanced registration is required and fee charged.
- Tavern Game Night and Lantern Walks: Friday, October 31 from 6 to 8 pm; It’s all about beer and tavern games at the historic Meeme House tavern! You’ll have the chance to sample drinks from the turn of the century while learning or renewing your acquaintance with old-fashioned tavern games. The grounds will also be available for an evening stroll on this Halloween night! General admission.
