HFM Celebrates Donate Life Month with Flag Raising Ceremony

April 01, 2021
Manitowoc, Wis., (April 1, 2021) – In observance of National Donate Life Month, Holy Family Memorial (HFM) held a flag-raising ceremony at the HFM Medical Center on April 1 to commemorate those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants, as well as the families of individuals who chose to be donors.

The flag was raised to recognize that one organ donor can save up to 8 lives. The flag raising was followed by a 1 minute, 7 second moment of silence dedicated to the more than 107,000 patients who are still waiting to receive a lifesaving gift.

According to the U.S. Government Information on Organ Donation and Transplantation, there are currently more than 1,600 men, women and children from Wisconsin on the national transplant waiting list.

HFM works in collaboration with Versiti Organ and Tissue to provide a second chance at life for individuals in need of an organ for transplant. So far in 2021, HFM has been able to positively impact over 150 lives through life saving tissue donation.

Donation can include the kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas, intestines, tissue, and corneas. To learn more about becoming an organ donor, visit https://donatelifewisconsin.org/.
