Historical Society holds Civil War Muster, Library Card Free Day on May 11

 
The Manitowoc County Historical Society will hold a Civil War Muster on Saturday, May 11 from 10 am to 4 pm at it's museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc. 
Guests will be able to join Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery living history units, as they prepare and train. Spring muster activities include practice firing, military maneuvers, and comradery. Watch these reenactors knock the dust off and come back in September to see them again during Civil War Remembered (September 28 and 29).There will not be a main battle reenactment nor an encampment as part of this program.
There will also be a Wood-fired Oven Pretzels with Homemade Mustard workshop from 9 am to 1 pm that day. Advanced registration is required for the workshop. During the workshop, guests will make pretzels and bake them. While the pretzels are baking, the mustards can be made. The class is appropriate for ages 12+ (children under 16 must register with an adult).

In addition to the Civil War Muster demonstrations and activities, May 11 is also Library Card Free Day. In partnership with the Manitowoc-Calumet Library System, those with library cards are able to access free admission from 10 am to 4 pm. A story time at Shadyside School will be presented by the Manitowoc Public Library at 11:00 am.

General admission is $14 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for youth 4-17, children under 4 years of age are free. General Admission is always free for members! You can purchase your tickets when you arrive or pre-purchase your admission tickets.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers. 
 
Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
