Historical Society launches into Winter Weekend on January 10

The Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will hold a Winter Weekend program on Saturday, January 10 from 11 am to 3 pm.

As part of the January Winter Weekend, historic interpreters will share demonstrations and stories of the past in wood stove heated historic structures. Guests will be able to go on a bird scavenger hunt, stop in the Meeme House for a warm drink and tavern games, and visit the Print Office for demonstrations.  Bring a book and join in a cozy read-a-thon at the Sorenson House - and explore some tasty food traditions.

Guests can enhance their visit by taking part in a mending workshop. Explore two mending techniques for woven (non-stretchy) fabrics, like jeans. In a modern era of fast fashion, you’ll want to join in this thrifty person’s guide to repairing your clothes and other popular items. Bring an item to mend and give it new life. Advanced registration is required.

Attendees can also join in an afternoon of sledding down the hill in the Niles Church hill! Bring your own sled for races down the hill or build a nature’s friend – a snowman complete with wildlife-friendly decorations. Embrace the winter by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. Bring your own snowshoes, skies, sleds.

MCHS is open for Winter Weekends from 11 am – 3 pm, on the second Saturday in January, February, and March. Enjoy these winter weekends by exploring a handful of historic buildings in the Village, embrace the winter by snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or sledding (bring your own snowshoes, skies, sleds), and enjoy the season!  Please note, paths may be slippery and buildings will not be open, unless they are a part of that day’s programming.

Admission for Winter Weekends is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 4 to 17. Under age 4 is free. Winter Weekends are made possible by Seehafer Broadcasting. For more information, visit ManitowocCountyHistory.org or call (920) 684-4445.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishin
gs, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
