Historical Society to hold Library Card Free Day on May 11

The Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will hold its annual Library card free day in conjunction with the Manitowoc-Calumet Library system on Saturday, May 11 from 10 am to 4 pm. Visitors can show their Manitowoc-Calumet Library system card and gain free access to the museum and village for the day.

A full slate of activities and experiences will take place as part of Library Card Free Day.
  • A story time will be presented at 11 am with the Manitowoc Public Library in Pinecrest Village's one room schoolhouse, Shadyside School.
  • A variety of make-and-take activities will also be available for youth inside Shadyside School.
  • A Civil War Muster will take place throughout the grounds. Join Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery living history units, as they prepare and train. Spring muster activities include practice firing, military maneuvers, and comradery. Watch these reenactors knock the dust off and come back in September to see them again during Civil War Remembered (September 28 and 29).
  • A Wood-fired Oven Pretzels with mustard workshop will take place in the Sorenson House. This program required advanced registration.
The Library Card Free Day, presented in partnership with the Manitowoc Public Library, Lester Public Library, and Brillion Public Library is one of the many opportunities the Historical Society offers with local libraries. In addition to the Library Card Free Day, guests can also check out passes at the Manitowoc Public Library and the Brillion Public Library to visit on any general admission day.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
