Great Decisions 2019, Mondays at 6:00 PM
Manitowoc Public Library is proud to present our twelfth year of hosting this preeminent grassroots lecture series that provides the citizens of the Lakeshore area with the opportunity to discover, discuss and decide how to meet some of the world’s greatest challenges head-on. Great Decisions takes you beyond the headlines with essential background information, relevant facts, ever-shifting policy options and impartial analysis. The series will begin Monday, February 4, at 6 PM, in MPL’s Balkansky Community Room. This series is free and open to the public. The following 2018 Great Decisions Series dates, topics, and scholars are as follows:

Lakeshore Grief Support, Monday, February 4, 6:00 PM-7:30 PM, Franklin Street Room. Lakeshore Grief Support Programs is a non-profit volunteer organization of people who are trained and committed to helping all people of all walks of life through the difficult journey of grief. We are not professional counselors, but we are people who believe that the support we can give each other when going through loss of a loved one is powerful and healing.
 
Lakeshore Memory Café, Wednesday, February 6, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, Balkansky Community Room. Lakeshore Memory Café provides a comfortable and non-judgmental environment in which persons with dementia, their families and their caregivers can interact and enjoy the company of others experiencing similar challenges.
 
Bizarre Wisconsin with Chad Lewis, Wednesday, February 6, 6:00 PM-7:30 PM, Balkansky Community Room. Strange deaths. Ghosts. Sea serpents. Peculiar people. Medical anomalies. Oddities. Psychic phenomena. UFOs. Seems like we’re talking about Season 4 of “The X-Files,” doesn’t it? But, we’re not. We’re talking about the Badger State. Chad Lewis’s presentation showcases over 100 bizarre newspaper stories that haven’t been seen in over 100 years. These unbelievable stories provide a time portal back to the early days of the state and will change how you view the good ol' days of Wisconsin forever!

The Witness Stand: Mi Corazon Esta Muerto! (My Heart Is Dead!) @ Courthouse Pub, Wednesday, February 13, 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Love is a mysterious beast—one minute, you feel as if your heart may explode from an excess of emotion and the next, you’re certain that life isn’t worth living anymore because your heart is nothing more than a burnt out husk! In brief—everyone has a passionate tale to tell! Why not tell yours at “Mi Corazon Esta Muerto (My Heart is Dead)!”—the fourth installment of MPL’s and Courthouse Pub’s storytelling series, “The Witness Stand.” No props, no notes. Just five minutes and a true heartbreaking tale to tell. All the specifics can be found at www.manitowoclibrary.org/witness. Sign-up begins at 5:30 PM.
