Manitowoc, WI, December 16, 2024—Manitowoc Public Library’s January 2025 Children’s Programs are scheduled with the following events and dates:
Manitowoc Public Library Closed for New Year’s Holiday
Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025
MPL will be closed on December 31, 2024 & January 1, 2025 for the New Year’s Holiday. Regular hours will resume in 2025 on Tuesday, January 2, at 9 AM.
Enchanted Evergleams at MPL Through Sunday, January 5, 2025
'Tis the Season for the “Gleam Team”—Manitowoc Aluminum Kitsch-Mas Inc., or MAKI, for short—to present "Evergleams on Eighth" in Downtown Manitowoc! Over 100 glittering aluminum Evergleam trees in over forty different styles, sizes, and colors will be featured in participating downtown businesses, with an impressive number showcased in the Enchanted Evergleam Forest at Manitowoc Public Library! Give into the sparkle of the rare trees on display! Returning this year—an incredible custom-made 14-foot Evergleam marvel donated to Manitowoc Aluminum Kitsch-Mas Inc. by a very generous pair of sisters from Kansas!
Family Activity Nights (FANs) Tuesday Evenings
Join us Tuesday evenings at Manitowoc Public Library for something different and fun for the whole family! This month’s FANs are geared towards children ages 5-11, but older siblings are always welcome! Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. No registration is required for either evening. Please check our Facebook page and event calendar for updates!
- Bingo Bash!—January 7, 6-7 PM Join us for a night of lively competition, snacks, and prizes! Bingo is excellent reinforcement for kids learning their letters and numbers, and practicing social skills like listening, sportsmanship, and following directions.
- Colorful Creation—January 21, 6:30-7:15 PM Unleash your creativity! Join MPL’s Miss Lynn and explore different art techniques to create a trio of projects:
- Squeegee painted cats
- Tissue paper and crayon resists
- Mini mosaics
Baby Storytime Wednesdays & Thursdays, 9:30 AM
Baby Storytime is 20 minutes of stories, songs, rhymes, bounces, parachute activities, and bubbles, followed by 20 minutes of playtime! Baby Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 0-2 and siblings are always welcome. All Library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Registration is not required. Please note that there will be no Storytimes on January 1 or 2.
Preschool Storytime Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 AM
Join us in singing, talking, reading, creating, and playing at this inclusive Storytime for families with preschoolers. Storytime focuses on concepts such as life skills, counting, colors, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. It's a great opportunity to meet new friends, socialize, and strengthen early literacy skills. Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 2-5 and siblings are always welcome. All library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Registration is not required. Please note that there will be no Storytimes on January 1 or 2.
Messy Marvins Friday, January 10, 10-11 AM
Messy Marvins—it's a baby art studio morning, baby!! We provide the supplies; you supply the creativity! Drop into the Balkansky Community Room any time from 10-11 AM on Friday, January 10, with your littles (babies to preschool age) for an inspirational artistic experience. Stay neat or get messy with our self-directed art stations and create a masterpiece to take home.
2025 Winter Reading Program | Warm Up with a Good Book!
Sunday, January 12-Saturday, February 22
The Winter Reading Program at Manitowoc Public Library is open to all ages! Read or be read to a total of 10 hours from January 12 through February 22. Everyone that finishes receives a prize, as well as a raffle ticket to enter to win one of a variety of fantastic baskets!! Track your reading on the Beanstack app or by visiting manitowoclibrary.beanstack.org, or by picking up a paper tracker at any MPL Service Desk! Online registration opens on Thursday, January 2.
Read to Certified Therapy Dogs Tuesday, January 14, 6:30-7:30 PM
Studies show that children who read to animals, like our therapy dogs, gain confidence and improve their overall reading. Due to limited availability, registration is required. Each family may register for one 15-minute one-on-one session with a therapy dog. Adults must accompany children under the age of 8 at all times. Registration opens at 5 PM on Monday, December 30. Please call 920-686-3030 or stop by the Youth Services Department to sign up.
Super Smash Bros Smackdown! Friday, January 24, 10 AM-12 PM
Watch your favorite Nintendo characters duke it out on the Big Screen from 10 AM ‘til Noon on Friday, January 24! Our Super Smash Bros Smackdown is perfect for gamers of ALL AGES, from kids to adults. Everyone is invited to join the fun, whether you are a seasoned player, new to the game, or are just in the market to watch the action. Challenge your friends, family, and fellow gamers. Then, smash your way to victory and become the ultimate champion! No registration required!
Sew What!—Fun With Felt Thursday, January 30, 6-7:30 PM
Can't sew? Sew what! Anyone aged 8-18 is invited to get creative hand-sewing with felt in MPL’s Balkansky Community Room from 6-7:30 PM on Thursday, January 30. Start by crafting your very own pencil pouch, then let your imagination run wild! Add buttons, decorations, and all kinds of fun flair to make it uniquely yours. Supplies provided, but limited. First come, first served!
