MCHS to hold Teacher Appreciation Day July 24

June 28, 2018
MCHS to hold Teacher Appreciation Day July 24
The Manitowoc County Historical Society would like to say thank you to all of the teachers and day care professionals who put in the time and effort to bring learning to life for their students. If you've never been to the Manitowoc County Historical Society with your students, come out to preview what the museum has to offer. Or if you've already visited many times with students, enjoy exploring at a leisurely pace. The museum’s education experience interpreters will be on hand to lead short informational sessions on incorporating an educational visit or program to enhance your classroom learning. Light refreshments will be served.
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.
Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
School experiences are aligned with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's Social Studies standards. The Manitowoc County Historical Society offers a variety of tour types for each grade level during which students will experience many hands-on activities.
Educators may arrive anytime between 1 pm and 4 pm. It is recommend to allow at least 2 hours to explore and enjoy refreshments. Educators are admitted free; family members pay regular admission fee. Teachers must present school or day care ID to receive free admission.
Please RSVP by July 17. You can RSVP online at https://manitowoccountyhistory.org/programs/teacherappreciation, email programs@manitowoccountyhistory.org, or call (920) 684-4445.
