Roncalli High School presents the Broadway Classic “Bye Bye Birdie”

MANITOWOC, Wis., ‑ The students of Roncalli High School’s theatre department are thrilled to present the high-energy, crowd-pleasing musical comedy favorite “Bye Bye Birdie”. This Broadway Classic is based on the book written by Michael Stewart, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams, and originally produced by Edward Padula.

Set in 1958 America, the story follows teen-idol Conrad Birdie—drafted into the U.S. Army—and the uproar that ensues when his manager, Albert Peterson, and devoted secretary, Rosie Alvarez, engineer a publicity stunt: a farewell performance and a “one-last-kiss” for lucky fan Kim MacAfee in small-town Sweet Apple, Ohio.

“We are thrilled to bring “Bye Bye Birdie” to the Zimmer Auditorium stage as this year’s musical at Roncalli,” said Tim Olson, director. “This show allows us to showcase our talented students, both on stage and in the pit, with ‘Bye Bye Birdie’s’ tuneful score, razor-sharp wit, and nostalgic celebration of rock ’n’ roll, family and fad.”

Roncalli High School will present “Bye Bye Birdie” November 13-15 at 7 p.m., and on November 16 at 2 p.m. in Zimmer Auditorium located in the Roncalli High School Fine Arts Center at 2000 Mirro Drive, Manitowoc. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens (ages 65 and older), $5 for students (ages 5-18), and Roncalli Catholic Schools students are admitted for free with their school ID. The box office will open one hour prior to all performances.

“Bye Bye Birdie” is presented in arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. www.concordmusicals.com
