MANITOWOC, Wis. — The Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Dr., has a variety of activities scheduled for the month of February. Details regarding dates, times and cost are listed below.
  • February 1, 2019, all month     Black History Month
In recognition of Black History Month, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum will be highlighting stories of African Americans that helped shape the maritime landscape of Wisconsin and our country. These stories will be told through vignettes around the exhibit galleries, inviting all visitors to come together and celebrate our collective maritime heritage. Free with admission.
 
  • February 2, 9, 16, 23   11am-12 pm   WMM Science Club: All About Energy
Join museum educators for this science club featuring experiences, competitions and lots of ping pong balls. This WMM Science Club meets weekly for five weeks. Registration is $25 for the entire series. Scholarships are available upon request.
 
  • February 2, 1-2 pm   Sensory Storytime
Geared towards little sailors of all abilities, our Sensory Storytime provides a relaxed and inclusive experience for all. Join a museum educator as they read a boat-themed book while providing hands-on and multi-sensory activities. Admission is free.
 
  • February 6, 10 am-2 pm   Homeschool Day
We invite homeschool groups and families from around the state to enjoy a day dedicated to learning. We are offering a variety of education programs and tours especially for these groups throughout the day. There is sure to be something for everyone at Homeschool Day!   • February 9, 10-11am   Smithsonian Saturday
Watch a featured Smithsonian Channel documentary on a variety of topics on the museum’s Smithsonian Saturdays. This month, we are proud to present “Smithsonian Spotlight: National Museum of African American History and Culture”. Discover the inspirations, efforts and challenges in establishing an American museum dedicated to presenting and preserving the African American experience. Free with admission.
 
  • February 10 and 23, 1-4pm   Nook and Cranny Technical Tour
These technical and in-depth submarine tours are a hit! Prepare to explore areas of the USS COBIA you’ve never seen before on this three-hour tour. Participants should be 16 years or older. $15 plus general admission. Space is limited. Call Mike (920)684-0218 x 106 for reservations.
 
  • February 14, 6-8 pm   After Hours: World War II Love Stories
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the museum at this after-hours special event featuring true stories of romance during World War II. Listen to historic love letters read aloud while viewing rare archival materials from the museum’s vault. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments are included.  $30/person, $50/couple, $20/member.   • February 23, 1-2:30 pm   Saturday Learning Series: Big Five Dive
Five Great Lakes. 24 hours. One group of divers. Archaeologist, diver and executive producer Stephanie Gandulla will be at the museum screening her documentary Big Five Dive and sharing stories of diving shipwrecks all over the world, including the Great Lakes. Free with museum admission.
